Free Art Friday

I had never heard of this Free Art Friday thing until there was a segment about it on BBC’s The One Show earlier this week and the ideal appealed to me.  It was started about ten years ago by a street artist known as MyDogSighs (Site and Twitter if you would like to learn more about him).

FAA1The idea has grown and now artists around the world leave pieces of art in their cities, or cities they are visiting for members of the public to find and take home with them on Fridays.  These can be any kind of art, MyDogSighs uses recycled cans, others use photos, paintings, prints and all sorts of things.  I thought, why should it just be city dwellers that get the chance to find free art, so sometime today my first offering will be made in the small village of Etchingham in East Sussex.

IMG_1121 FAF ladyArtists who particpate post pictures to their social media sites to give their followers clues as to where to find their art, I am using this blog and my twitter account @KerioakArt

If you are the new owner or even just intrigued and wish to post to twitter and/or leave a comment here I would be delighted but this is totally optional, I just want someone to enjoy my work.

Edit:  This piece now has a home, the new owner tweeted a message

Pebble Painting

PebblIMG_1117 shoe house 1es, stones and rocks are great for painting on.  You an look at it and eventually, or even sooner, a shape or theme will start to appear.  The fastest one that I picked out recently reminded me of a boot, why on earth would I paint a boot you might ask?  Well, there is that old nursery rhyme about an Old Woman who lived in a shoe, even though it says shoe it is always depicted as a boot so a boot it became, complete with door, roof garden, windows, laces and even a ladder leaning up against one of the windows so the children could use it as an escape route.

This particular pebble is tiny, only about 4 cm/1.3/4 in long and 2.5cm/ 1 inch high, if you would like to see more pictures of it they are available for sale in my Etsy shop, sad as I am to have to admit it, my own Kerioak site does not get as many visitors as Etsy does so I have more chance of someone loving it and wanting to give it a new home by listing it there.

I use very tiny brushes,  Winsor and Newton acrylic paints and then seal with at least two, often more coats of acrylic varnish to protect it.  I really enjoy pebble painting and they make great miniature works of art, you can see more on my Painted Pebbles page here on my site

Unique Designer Nail Art

For everyone who is interested in decorating their nails I have now added a new site – drum roll please …………….

I have over two hundred designs including cats (domestic, wild and cartoon) many breeds of dog, horses, unicorns, flowers, toys, halloween, cartoons and more.  These will be added to on a regular basis and I can also create special personalised stickers from your own images be it boy/girlfriend, pets, brides for hen nights, cars or anything your imagination comes up with.

Flaming Cat

I started off with a photo of flames from the fire and another of my kitten walking along a fence, I was not quite sure what was going to happen when I started, but then most pictures have a life of their own when I am experimenting so I just see where they lead me

Fiery winged fantasy cat

As you may have seen from  other pages in my website I enjoy using Adobe Photoshop and learning what it can do and what I can do with it.  This will be a never ending project as  you can do so many different things with it.  I thought it was about time I created a person from scratch, had created eyes before and “rebuilt” faces using shading but this is my first ever original “person”, hopefully the first of many

Death of a Serpent

Back with a Misty Tree

I thought it was about time I started updating my blog again and this morning was way out of my home area on the way back home after having set off at an unearthly hour in the morning, when I could not resist the sun just peeking though the mist over the heather and leafless trees to get this photograph
